Quote of the Week

Connor told my chiropractor about how we'd been putting up decorations around house for Christmas. He was especially excited to talk about the tree (which the kids got to help decorate). My chiropractor asked Connor if we had anything special on the top of our tree (we do, an angel). Connor shrugged and said, "Some girl. She lights up." It was so funny!

Quote of the Week

"When you go into the darkness, then you are in the darkness."

~Connor (age 3!!)

He was so serious when he said it. I've been giggling about it ever since.

Quote of the Week

Dan and Emily had a little date Saturday night. Before coming home, they stopped for some Chinese food. Emily got a fortune cookie with the following fortune inside:

You have an unusual magnetic personality

Emily said, "That's true! That balloon I had earlier kept wanting to stick to my hair!"

Dan said, "That's not really what it means. What it means is that people really like you and want to hang out with you all the time."

Em said, "Then Taylor (one of her best friends) must have a magnetic personality, too, because I ALWAYS want to spend time with her!"

Quote of the Week

"I was so mad that I jumped up and down like a frog!"

~Emily~

She wrote that in her journal at school yesterday morning, in reference to being upset about the pin split while playing Wii bowling. Except, I don't recall her EVER being upset while we played over the weekend, and I definately don't remember her jumping up and down like a frog! ha!

Either way, it made ME laugh, and it definately made her teacher laugh!

Quote of the Week

backstory: Connor's behavior had been HORRIBLE (times 1,000) the other day. Arguing, screaming, crying, etc. After he launched into yet another tantrum, I lost MY temper, and said to him very forcefully, "Connor, you are RUINING my day!!!!!!!"

To which he replied, loudly, "IT'S NOT YOUR DAY, IT'S MY DAY!"

And all I could do at that point was laugh. The little booger!

Quote of the Week

backstory: After Connor walked face-first into a spider web Friday night, I was telling the boys how it had happened to me one time when I had walked outside to feed our dog when I was much younger and still living with my parents. I told the boys that from that point on, I kept a small stick just inside the door that I would wave around in front of me when I was going out the door in order to knock down any spider webs that might be in my way.

Saturday, Jared came in from outside with a stick in his hand, with his dad following him into the house. Jared set the stick down, then turned to his dad and said this:

"Daddy, I'm going to do what mama did in the old days..."

THE OLD DAYS?!?!?

Quote of the Week

backstory: Jared put on one of the dress-up outfits we have for the kids, then informed me he was going to wear it to the costume party at Gram's house (they have a Halloween party every year). Since I'd just purchased him a SWAT costume to wear for Halloween, I was prompted to ask him, "I thought you were going to wear your SWAT costume for Halloween?"

his reply: "I'm not talking about trick-or-treating! I'm wearing the SWAT costume for trick-or-treating. I'm talking about the COSTUME PARTY. You know, where people gather at Gram's house, and they all wear costumes? YOU KNOW?"

Yes, child of mine, I'm fully aware of what a costume party is! Sometimes I'm convinced there's a much older mind trapped in my five-year-old's head. Where people gather at Gram's??? He's hilarious!

Quote of the Week

Connor (whispering): "Want to hear a pooky tory" (spooky story)

me: "I'd love to hear a spooky story, but you have to talk a little louder so I can hear you better."

Connor: "I will turn the woud on when I am weady." (loud on when ready)

me: "Okay!"

Connor (whispering): "One time, I was in the woad (road) and a window monster...came and ate me all up!"

Connor (not whispering): "The End! See, I turned the woud (loud) on at the end!"

Quote of the Week

Me: (upon coming into the dining room and finding Connor smearing yogurt all over himself) "Connor! What in the world are you DOING?"

Connor: (with the sweetest smile you can possibly imagine on his face) "Tendin' I'm puttin' on sunscween."

Quote of the Week

A baby will make love stronger
Days shorter, Nights longer
Bankroll smaller, Clothes shabbier,
The past forgotten,
And the future worth living for.
---------------------------------------

I came across that poem/quote when I was searching for something to use in a birthday card for a baby's 1st birthday, and while it wasn't quite what I had in mind for the birthday card, it works great for the Quote of the Week!

Quote of the Week

Strength in Numbers

If you think that you alone cannot do much to improve your school, you are probably right. But if you collaborate with other parents and organizations, you can make a difference. There is strength and power in numbers.

• 1 parent: A fruitcake

• 2 parents: A fruitcake and a friend

• 3 parents: Troublemakers

• 5 parents: “Let’s have a meeting”

• 10 parents: “We’d better listen”

• 25 parents: “Our dear friends”

• 50 parents: A powerful organization

Quote of the Week

I yelled back to Connor yesterday afternoon (who was supposed to be taking a nap) that he'd better lay quietly and go to bed or he wasn't going to get the fruit snacks he wanted later. A long pause and then he suddenly yells back in reply, "Are you KIDDING me? It's BEDTIME???"

Quote of the Week

Inside every older person is a younger person - wondering what the hell happened.
~Cora Harvey Armstrong~

Just how is it that I'm actually IN my 30's now (tomorrow)??? I think I'll follow in my neighbor's footsteps and just be 29 year after year... *grin*

Quote of the Week

Two of the first grade classes from Emily's school made plans to see Earth yesterday at 5pm. I made arrangements with our friends/neighbors that I would take their daughter, Katie (same grade as Emily, but whose classroom was not planning to attend the movie) if they kept Connor. I knew there was no way in the world Connor would sit nicely for that movie and didn't want to ruin it for everyone else. When it came time to drop off Connor and pick up Katie, Jared announced that he was staying with Connor and Emily (Katie's younger sister is also named Emily). I informed him that would mean missing the movie and not seeing the polar bears (in case you didn't know or didn't remember, his favorite stuffed animal happens to be a polar bear). He said:

"Emily is my best friend, and if she's not going, I'm not going."

It was the sweetest darn thing on the planet, and since I didn't want Jared to miss the movie, we invited Emily to join us as well! I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me in the first place to include her... I was extremely impressed that Jared was willing to give up a movie in order to spend time with his friend!!

FYI: really awesome footage and narration, funny moments, interesting facts... A little slow for kids. Jared, Katie, and my Emily did great, but Emily B wasn't interested AT ALL. Several littler kids (2-3 years old) were fussy and loud by the end. The older crowd stayed pretty tuned in. You could hear the room starting to get a little resless at times, but then something funny or faster paced would happen and it would suck them all back in again. If you've got younger kids, I'd suggest renting it. If you've got older kids (Emily and Katie are both almost 7 and said they really liked it), it could be worth seeing in the theater for the BIGNESS of the picture that helps make the movie seem that much more powerful. There were two or three parts that very sensitive people might call graphic, but there was no blood shown at any point and the four kids I had with me weren't bothered.

Quote of the Week

Jared (out of the blue, to Dan and I): When my wife dies, I'm going to take care of my kids by myself.

Dan: When your wife dies???

Jared: Yeah, when my wife dies. I'm not kidding, I'm going to take care of my kids all by myself.

Leah: How many kids are you going to have?

Jared: (holds up ten fingers)

Leah: Will you try to find a new wife?

Jared: No! I don't need any help.

Leah: Who will sleep in bed next to you at night?

Jared: I'll just sell the two people bed and buy a one people bed.

Dan: Who will take care of your kids while you're at work?

Jared: I'll drive them to the daycare.

Leah: Where are you going to work?

Jared: (whispers to Dan...) Where do you work again? I'll work with you.

In true Jared fashion, he was spouting out answers to our questions without any pause for thought, and was very animated in his facial expressions and body movements. Where does he come up with this stuff???
