Better luck next year!

As we bring our 2011 gardening adventure to a close, let's take one last look at our efforts.

The last of the still-growing plants gave us 15 pumpkins and two butternut squash (None of which ever really did fully ripen or grow very big, but it didn't dampen our excitement about the whole process of growing them from seed!).

We'll try again next year, as more experienced gardeners, and we'll see what we can make of it. *Grin* We will plant radish and carrots later in the season than we did this year, we'll plant a lot more bean plants, we'll add in some zuchinni, and we'll do a better job keeping the pumpkin vines from getting too out of control so we're able to force the growth of some larger-sized pumpkins. I'm hoping to add a fourth garden box, but that plan may be foiled by the fire hydrant pipe that may be run through that part of our yard...

Sounds like you have some constructive learning. =) And I wouldn't call what you did this year a failure by any means.

I don't know if you started your seeds in the ground, but it helps to start them earlier indoors, then transplant them out in the ground. Also, certain varieties grow larger than others. Let us know when you're getting ready next year. We had some great pumpkins this year.
