Open Wide!

Our good friends (who also happen to live only three houses down from us) have been raving about this sushi place in Seattle for MONTHS now, stating they want to take us there with them sometime. I'm not into the whole idea of sushi, am a rather picky eater, and Dan and I typically don't go out to eat (pricey!), so we haven't pushed really hard to make it happen. Tonight, however, they weren't taking no for an answer and we all piled into their car and headed to Seattle for dinner.

We ordered three appetizers to get started, and I personally thought the skewered chicken yakitori (chicken with brown sugar soy glaze) was FABULOUS! The spicy ginger chicken (fried chicken with sauteed veggies in spicy ginger dressing) was too spicy for me... There was also this calamari dish, and I did eat ONE little piece. It wasn't bad, but the chicken yakitori was better, so I stuck with it. LOL Then we moved onto the sushi rolls. We got the Rockstar (fried creamy scallop roll topped with spicy crab mayonnaise & soy glaze), which was good, and the Seattle Crunch (salmon, cream cheese & avocado fried & drizzled with teriyaki sauce & sweet chili aioli), which, if I am remembering correctly, was my favorite of the two. I didn't eat the other two rolls (can't even remember their names!) as I just couldn't bring myself to venture into the raw meat stuff, but Dan and Jason both really enjoyed them.

Anyone who knows me, knows that this is big stuff for picky ol' me! I'm all about the visual appearance, then the flavor/texture in my mouth. This stuff didn't look entirely appetizing, and was rather sloppy in my mouth, but it was actually pretty tasty, and it was fun to be trying something new (and enjoying it!) while out having a great time with good friends. And they took care of the bill despite our loud protests, so it turned out to be quite the nice treat of an evening indeed!

California rolls are always a safe bet with sushi as everything is cooked. I am glad you had a nice time.
