Gardens Week 13

We currently have 7 good sized pumpkins, and several golf-ball to softball sized pumpkins. The vines are still branching out all over, and I'm still struggling to figure out which ones are okay to trim back and which ones I need to leave alone. There's so many!!! I think the kids will be perfectly happy with whatever sized pumpkins we end up with, so I'm not going to stress out at this point about trying to grow them really big. Next year we'll definately have a better idea of what we're doing.

The cucumbers are finally starting to gain size, but I forgot to take a picture of them. They are about the size of a pickle right now.

We picked about 6 carrots out of Connor's garden over the weekend to go along with the lettuce we picked out of Jared's garden, making for a nice fresh salad with dinner. Dan even had some chopped up tomato in his, which came from our neighbor's garden.

Em's butternut squash are finally making some good progress as well. I've only found two so far, and a third REALLY teeny tiny one, which probably won't even flower for another week or two... There might be more hiding somewhere!!

I'm realizing it's going to be sad for the kids and I when the growing season is over and we don't have these gardens to tend and harvest any longer. I'll have to actually start shopping for lettuce and carrots and beans again!! *POUT* I NEVER considered myself any sort of gardener, but I'm already looking forward to next year when we can start again; with some changes in mind, and using some "tricks of the trade" we learned this year, etc. I might even have to talk Danny into building a fourth box so I have one for ME as well. LOL!

Same pumpkin, week 12 compared to week 13 (I know at first glance it doesn't look like it grew since I didn't zoom in enough, but notice on the left my fingers stick up higher than the pumpkin, and on the right, they don't!)

If you could grow some speghetti squash for me and ship it to me...that'd be great! =) Have fun with the pumpkins! XO
